self portrait

Self Portrait, 2010
Kimberly Will
Colored Pencils

I had a hard time finding self-portraits. I went to the Burchfield Penny Art Museum and they only had three. I found the self portraits interesting because I created my self portrait first. I noticed my self portrait expressed my personality. I am very easy going and down to earth. I noticed the personalities in the art work. Burchfield himself was a pretty intense person. His artwork had lots of colors and bold dramatic lines. I used color pencils to create my self portrait. I found my self comfortable knowing that if I made a mistake I could erase it. Being new at all of this artwork, I still have to become adventurous and daring with media. I will try different media when I am not on such a timed scheduled.(NO time for mistakes). I really did not find this to challenging. I noticed how many times I had to keep looking at the photo. My eyes were constantly sifting back and forth. With more practice, I sure it will become easier.Very simple. That is me. I don't let to many things get me upset, I need to live in harmony and I love to smile and be happy.I used shapes, lines, color,my portrait has symmetrical balance. There is visual color in my hair to express my highlights. There is definitely unity in the portrait.I enjoyed creating my work of art. I have to say I enjoyed the creation of the artworks during the class. Learning the true principles and elements of art and then applying them was the best part.
